Spending the weekend at Seattle GiveCamp

We make it our mission to meet students where they are. That could mean teaming with celebrities to record Wake Up calls, providing advance screenings for movies as rewards for improving attendance, or running contest through our Facebook page to connect with students and open a dialogue with them.
This weekend, we focused on increasing our Facebook engagement by working with the volunteers at Seattle GiveCamp to create a Facebook app for photo contests. Our goal was ambitious and three days was a very tight deadline. But we’re always up for a challenge!
There are more than 18K fans in our Facebook network. We have a mix of students, parents, teachers, educators and community partners interacting with us on a daily basis. If you know anything about Facebook interaction, you know images are the most popular content shared on the network. Armed with that knowledge, we solicited the help of a University of Washington student, Cassius, to create an app that let students upload, vote for and share images on our Facebook page.

We got to work on our project right away and discovered the best option was to choose an off the shelf program that could be customized. We’re excited to debut our new project around the holidays. If you haven’t joined Get Schooled’s Facebook page, you should definitely do so now!
Huge thanks to the team at Seattle GiveCamp, the volunteers and Cassius for helping us with our very ambitious weekend project.
